Character limits
Based on total character count (including spaces). These are the platforms' standard technical limits using plain character counting — a few platforms (X/Twitter in particular) weight some characters differently in their own composer, so treat this as a close estimate rather than the platform's exact internal count.

Frequently asked questions
How is the word count calculated?
Text is split on whitespace (spaces, tabs, line breaks), and each resulting chunk counts as one word. A hyphenated word like "well-known" counts as one word; an em dash—like this—doesn't split the surrounding words apart either, since there's no space around it in typical usage.
How is reading and speaking time estimated?
Reading time assumes 200 words per minute, a commonly used average for adult silent reading. Speaking time assumes 130 words per minute, a typical pace for reading text aloud. Both are estimates — actual speed varies a lot by content and reader.
Why might the sentence count be off?
Sentences are detected by splitting on ., !,
and ?. That's a good approximation but isn't perfect —
abbreviations ("Dr.", "e.g.") and decimal numbers ("3.14") can throw
off an automatic count, the same way they trip up most simple
sentence counters.
Does this send my text anywhere?
No. Counting happens entirely in your browser as you type — nothing is sent to a server, which also means it works offline once the page has loaded.
