Frequently asked questions
What does a word unscrambler actually do?
It takes a jumbled set of letters and returns every dictionary word that can be spelled using those letters. Unlike a strict anagram solver, which only rearranges all the letters at once, a word unscrambler also finds shorter words hiding inside your letter set — so seven letters might turn up dozens of playable words from two letters up to seven.
How do I use the wildcard (blank tile)?
Type ? anywhere in your letters to represent a blank
tile. It's treated as any letter of the alphabet when searching, the
same way a blank works in Scrabble or Words With Friends.
Does this work for Scrabble and Words With Friends?
Yes. The dictionary behind this tool (ENABLE1) is one of the standard word lists used by word-game solvers, and results include each word's point value under standard Scrabble letter scoring so you can sort for the highest-scoring play.
Why didn't a word I know show up?
Two common reasons: the word needs a letter you didn't enter (double letters count — "letter" needs two T's and two E's), or it isn't in the ENABLE1 word list, which excludes proper nouns, abbreviations, and a handful of regional or offensive terms found in some other word lists.
Is this free?
Yes, the tool is free to use with no account or sign-up required.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser and works on phones, tablets, and desktops.
